DNV to perform Technology Qualification on FibreMax Endless Winding Technology

DNV (Det Norske Veritas) will perform a Technology Qualification on the Endless Winding Technology of FibreMax. Although already well established in many industries, the Endless Winding Technology of FibreMax is in some industries still considered as new technology . New technology is technology that is not proven. This implies that the application of proven technology in a new environment or an or an unproven technology in a known environment, are both new technology.

The Technology Qualification on the Endless Winding Technology is a confirmation by examination and provision of evidence that the new technology meets the specified requirements for the intended use. Hence, qualification is a documented set of activities to prove that the technology is fit for purpose. DNV will not only use its offshore standard DNV-OS-E303 to look at use in mooring systems but also for use as tendons for TLP’s. DNV will issue a "Statement of Feasibility", stating at what degree the Endless Winding Technology proves to be feasible for further qualification.

The qualification results can be used:

  • As an acceptance for implementation of new technology.
  • For comparison between alternative technologies.
  • As input in the evaluation of the reliability of a larger system that the qualified new technology may be a part of.

The outcome sets the scene for qualification of the new technology and serves the following:

  • The company, who integrates the new technology into a larger system, and needs to evaluate the effect on the total system reliability.
  • The end-user of the new technology, who must optimize the benefits of his investment through selection between competing technologies.
  • FibreMax, who offers the new technology to the market and therefore needs to display a proof of fitness for purpose.

Within the next months we will keep you updated on the progress of this qualification.
